Vacuum Cleaner Roller Brush Repair

Start by drilling a hole through the roller brush and splined shaft.

Remove the brushroll and clean all hair string and lint from the brushroll bearings. The scrap wood protects the bristles from getting crushed by the vice. Pull one end of the roller upward away from the vacuum cleaner and slip the belt off the roller.

Insert the head of a phillips screwdriver into the each of the four screws on the brush housing and turn the screwdriver counterclockwise to loosen the screws enough to remove them. If the brushroll is sticking it will cause too much friction and put too much strain on the belt. To make this easier first clamp the roller brush in a vice using two pieces of scrap wood. The manufacturing programs this to help to protect the vacuum from damage.

Now if the brush roll indicator light is green the obstruction has been cleared. If the vacuum cleaner brush still doesn t spin after you clean the brushroll consider replacing the brushroll. On some models you can do this by turning three locking screws with a coin while on others you ll have to remove some screws. To get your jammed brush roller working again locate the flat plate on the bottom of your vacuum cleaner.
